The UHA attended a promotional event in Singapore in November. It was our very first event in Singapore, and we were invited by their British Columbia Trade and Investment office. Throughout this three-day promotion, we had meetings with seafood buyers, exhibited at a networking reception, and had a tour of various seafood markets. The affluent culture of Singapore offers new opportunities for Geoduck from Canada. During the market tours, we noticed that there was geoduck, but they were typically from Mexico.
During the afternoon networking event, we displayed live geoducks and handed out promotional material. We had the opportunity to talk to over 70 local seafood buyers. We learned that Singaporeans are very interested in only getting a supply of smaller white geoducks. They would not be willing to do a range of ocean-run geoducks. As a result, these specifications would make the market difficult for our association. However, there still remains to be a lot of potential for Geoduck from Canada in Singapore.
